About
The Full Story
After 15 years of teaching English, history, art history, and research techniques in private schools, I set out to support individual learners in the ever more competitive college application process, targeting three areas of achievement: standardized test preparation, college application essays (for the Common Application and college-specific supplementals), and AP exams in English and history. I am not a college admissions consultant, but I frequently work with such professionals to boost clients' efforts and help them stand out from the crowd. I have 10 years success in this field and was working in remote instructions three years before the COVID-19 epidemic, which means I have long experience in the best ways to make remote instruction both effective and enjoyable.
I was educated at Amherst College (MA), Loyola University of New Orleans (LA), and Lincoln College, Oxford (UK). I twice served as an English department chair and have read/scored for the AP English Literature exam. My research interests include writing instruction, secondary English education, assessment design, and data-driven curriculum reform in the humanities. In the age of AI, I believe individual voices are more rather than less important in the college application process, and so I believe balancing strong quantitative metrics with a lively personal style is the best recipe for admissions success.
